Monday Feb 25 - More information

Hi!

As I've told some of you, I need to go home and take care of one of my kids. It's VABruary... See below for what to do:

1. Make sure your presentations are prepared. You will all do them on Thursday.

2. Thursday will also be spent discussing social issues as we experience them locally, here in Vännäs/Bjurholm/other, and most importantly at Lilja. I expect you to do the brainstorm (see previous post) and find things to discuss. I also want you to connect these issues to your own life/experiences. Last but not least, I want suggestions on how to work with these issues from a student perspective. There's no need to send anything in, but I fully expect you to take notes and be prepared to both participate and be able to take the initiative in our discussion on Thursday. In short, be ready!

That's it. Sorry that i couldn't be there.

Regards, Daniel

Monday Feb 25 - Presentations + Discussing social issues

Aim:

1. Practicing oral skills, delivering arguments. ("in different situations be able to introduce and actively participate in different kinds of oral communication [...] use English flexibly, for a purpose [...] formally and informally" and "provide structured oral information")

2. Listening comprehension. ("Understand different types of clear, authentic speech, in various circumstances")

Tasks:

1. Last rehearsal & presentations of ad campaign analysis. 2 groups.

2. Discussing social issues:

a. Brainstorm social issues - which are there?

b. Social issues in Vännäs/at school?

c. Working with social issues from a student perspective - how?

If you want to do anything before we meet on Monday (except for preparing presentations...), then think about 2a-c.

Thursday Feb 14 - Picture analysis

Aim:

Tasks:

1. We'll work in 4 groups. One will consist of the web designers, the rest you make yourselves. Each individual will get one picture to analyse. This analysis will be presented to the rest of the group. Then the group will present an analysis of all the pictures, this in front of the rest of us. I'll make sure you get pics to work with (different ad campaigns, one for each group), but if you feel strongly about it you can look for pics yourselves.

2. Make sure to get familiar with the terms "connotation" and "denotation". They'll be central to your work. Analyse the picture (different parts, colors, figures,  symbols etc.) and the text (if any). I'll go through an example to show what I'm after.

3. Don't know how much time this'll take, but I'm guessing 2 weeks. We'll see...

PS. Check FC for pics. The web designers will work with the Nike campaign. Just choose one pic each and get started. IF at all possible, it might not be a bad idea for you to attend the first 20 or so minutes on Thu.... DS

And we're back.... Mon 4/2 - Presentations & books

Aim: Oral skills & reading comprehension

Tasks: Oral presentations of dialects, and one (?) more. Read in books, write in reading diary. Nothing strange really, except that I'll be a bit late. I need to help load/unload one of our trampolines. It's been at Hammar but is coming back "home". I should be back in good time for the presentations. Just wait for me please. Use the time to read/prepare.
